The perfect gift for all the stars of Father’s Day

It’s by deliberate design that our special Father’s Day Salted Caramel brownies are baked with buttery shortbread stars this year. Because when we think about fathers here at Love Brownies, it’s the word ‘star’ that comes to mind time and again. And the best of dads are all absolute stars. They guide us when things get difficult and they cheer for us when it’s our turn to shine.

Being a good parent is a really demanding role, and there’s nothing a dad wouldn’t do for his children. Dad jokes and (occasional, but no less scarring!) embarrassing dancing in public aside, they bring the love day after day with support, encouragement and wisdom when it’s needed.

It’s a colossal thing to thank them for. Year after year we wonder how we can show them just how much we really love and appreciate them. We’re thinking our Father’s Day Salted Caramel brownies definitely hit the mark but if you’re wanting to make your gift even more special this year, our friends at The Wright Wine Company have suggested the perfect wine, brandy or whisky match to go with them.

Gemma Crangle, of The Wright Wine Company explained that the chocolate, salted caramel and shortbread were a ‘heavenly trilogy of flavours to match with our drinks.’ We couldn’t agree more!

Gemma recommended:

Wine – Banyuls Bila Haut, Chapoutier 50cl £15.50. She said: “This red dessert wine is the perfect match to chocolate, the darker and richer the better! A rich yet clean fortified wine made from Grenache around the French Mediterranean town of Banyuls, close to the Spanish border. Rich, ripe black fruits with cocoa notes and very fine tannins.”

Whisky – Glenfarclas Springs, Speyside £45.00. Gemma said: “The salted caramel notes on this single malt Speyside whisky, (as a result of the sherry cask ageing), beautifully mirror the same flavours in the brownie.”

Brandy – Torres 10 year old Imperial Brandy, Spain £21.00. Gemma said: “The warm, toasty, vanilla notes in this smooth barrel-aged brandy perfectly enhance the shortbread and salted caramel notes in the brownie.”

If one of these perfect pairings isn’t the ultimate way to let your Father’s Day star know just how special they are this year, we’re not sure what will!

The egg hunt is over!

Our limited edition Double Chocolate & Crème Egg brownies are here.

It’s that time of year when only chocolate with more chocolate will do. And no-one knows chocolate like we do. This year our limited edition brownie is the ultimate seasonal indulgence.

We’ve taken our triple gold star Great Taste award-winning Double Chocolate brownie to the next level with the addition of a deliciously gooey crème egg. It’s rich, unspeakably scrumptious and a cracking way to treat your friends and family this Easter. That’s the first and last of the egg puns, we promise!

The humble egg has been used by cultures and religions throughout history as a symbol for new life and new beginnings. They were later linked to the Resurrection, by the Christian faith.

The first chocolate eggs were made in Europe in the early 19th century, with France and Germany leading the trend. But British chocolate manufacturers were also working hard on huge innovations in chocolate at this time and by 1893, there were 19 different lines in the Cadbury Brothers’ Easter range.

Filled eggs were first made by the Cadbury Brothers in 1923 and the Creme Egg as we know it today was introduced in 1963. Its sweet fondant centre was a huge instant hit with children and adults alike, and the rest is year after delicious year of history.

We’re big fans of chocolate with more chocolate here at Love Brownies and we think there’s no combination more perfect for Easter than the indulgence of our velvety dark chocolate, pieces of silky milk chocolate and organic cocoa freshly-baked with an oo-eey goo-ey crème egg.

We love to think you’ll love every bite and that you’ll love giving them as gifts at this special time of year, as you get together with your friends and family. Like all the best things, they’re a complete treat on their own but even better shared. Whatever your beliefs, we hope you’ll enjoy our limited edition Double chocolate and Crème Egg brownies this Easter – another spring, the return of warmer days and the promise of a new beginning.

Mother’s Day 2019

There’s something beautiful about baking, that takes me back to being a little girl with my mother. All those times – years ago but still as vivid as ever – with sleeves rolled up in the kitchen amid clouds of flour, determined to crack each egg perfectly every time. The delicious promise of the ultimate treat: licking the wooden spoon at the end. It wasn’t just about the baking though, it never is. It was the time spent together, her patiently teaching and me delighting in the learning, the two of us side by side. As the years have gone by, baking is as big a part of my life – and life with my own children – as ever it was. It’s that very same joy we hope to spread to this day, with Love Brownies.

And if you’ve read anything of our website, you’ll know what drives the team here is the guiding principle of mothers everywhere…’you only get out what you put in.’ It’s why we use not only the best, most ethically-sourced ingredients we possibly can but why we freshly-bake every single brownie in its own tiny tin to order, so that they’re all perfect every time.

A quick chat in the Love Brownies kitchen provided other pearls of wisdom passed down from those special women in our lives who have guided and shaped us, the mums, step-mums, aunties, grandmas and the family friends who’ve stepped up, filled-in and been there for us time and again over the years.

With warmth and wit they told us that nothing good ever happens after 2am (if only we’d listened!), that beds were not made for jumping on, that we’d catch a cold if we went out with wet hair, that good manners cost nothing, to be grateful for what we’ve got and that if a thing’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well. And there was something about not having room for dessert if we couldn’t finish dinner, but we’ve never got to grips with that one!

But how to say thank you on Mother’s Day?

How can a Mother’s Day gift say everything you want it to say?! Among a sea of Mother’s Day gift ideas, it can be difficult to decide what to buy for Mother’s Day.

For all the mums by blood, the mums-to-be, the matriarchs who’ve paved the way, we’ve created something special this year to give with love. Our delicious Caramel Fudge brownies  – the ones which combine the finest Belgian dark chocolate with milk chocolate chunks and delicious fudgy pieces of caramel – will be available in stores in a beautiful specially-designed box, ‘with love on Mother’s Day.’

Inside each brownie, there’s the surprise, hidden centre of sweet golden Harrogate caramel (because who doesn’t remember being told that ‘it’s what’s inside that counts’?!).

Whatever Mother’s Day present you choose, whether it’s a heart-felt card, chocolates, Mother’s Day flowers, a beautiful box of our freshly-baked letter-box-friendly brownies  or time spent together over a coffee and a little bit of something sweet at Love Brownies, there’s no time like Mother’s Day to say thank you and pass on the love.

With love,

Chantal

Love your true Valentine Saint

As we get ready for the Valentine’s Day rush in the Love Brownies kitchen, we have been thinking about the meaning of Love. It’s a big part of our name, it’s what we do, and it’s stirred into every brownie.

That reminded us that there’s more to love than romance, even on St Valentine’s Day. With the cultural focus on attraction and coupling up, it’s easy to overlook the real love in our lives.

In Finland the interpersonal culture is famously reserved. The fondest of friends might never touch one another, or tell each other how much that friendship means. Except on Ystävänpäivä, which translates into ‘Friend’s day’ and is celebrated on February the 14th. Finns use Valentine’s Day to break cover and make wild gestures of  friendship rather than romantic affections.

If we take a minute to close our eyes and really think about who this describes for us, we might be in for a surprise:

When you catch sight of this person in a crowd, you feel your heart lift with joy.

When something funny happens, this is the person you can’t wait to tell.

When you spend time with this person, you often laugh so much you need to take a minute to recover your dignity.

When your internal voice tells you “Don’t do that, what would everyone think?” but really ‘everyone’ in that sentence means this

We feel like making Valentine’s Day wholesome again – and celebrating the kind of love that keeps us on our feet with a smile on our face, and hope in our hearts. Here’s a chance to show our Valentine Saints that we are thankful for their fun and faithful friendship – and how important they are to us.

For some people those questions do describe a partner or lover. For lots of us it might be a close friend or sibling. If your partner does all that, you have a great friend for a lover. If a different person springs to mind, why should we let that affectionate bond be brushed aside? Let’s be radical and express our platonic love this Valentine’s Day!

If you’d like to join us and make a public declaration of affection Finland-style, why not begin with a Valentines Brownie? Send a sensational sweet message in a playful parcel choc-a-bloc with goodness. Give a heart-warming gift of fruity ruby & raspberry deliciousness to treat a treasured friend.

Love your life. Love your friends. Love brownies.
